Community Service Committee
Expanding and growing community service by the ACDP is a continuous effort involving many active party members. While the majority of our local democrats have been involved in various volunteer activities throughout their lifetimes, by mid 2017, a formal committee of ACDP was established. Our first project was identifying a team for litter pick up via Adopt a Highway. Four times a year, a 2-mile stretch of 550 is cleaned up. In 2019, we added to the list hosting a Friday Night dinner with Good Works, volunteering at the SE Ohio Food Pantry, and building and launching two Little Free Libraries in Athens County. We were also proud to have hosted a number of the dinners at our former office in Nelsonville, which included clothing giveaways. These projects involved many people who care deeply about their neighbors and surroundings. We hope to continue to support all these activities and are always looking for new ideas to put our good intentions into real action. Service leadership is a bedrock principle for our party, and we look for it in the candidates we support and officials we elect.

Community Engagements Committee
The future of Democratic engagement in Southeast Ohio involves us living up to our values as humanitarians, as progressives, and as the movers and shakers of our communities. The ACDP is well known for marching in the OU Homecoming parade and for our booth at the county fair, and we aim to increase our community involvement over the next few years. In 2019, the Athens County Democratic Party sponsored the Women’s March in Athens, renting tents for our community partners on a rainy Saturday afternoon. In 2018, we hosted cookouts in our small towns and villages creating a local space for engagement and relaxation. The future of progressive action in Southeast Ohio is not just in the elections we run, but in the programs that we host and support to make every day life more prosperous and enjoyable for every resident of Athens County.
The Finance Committee is the party’s fundraising arm. Our goals are: 1) ensuring adequate funds are available to maintain and operate one or more Democratic Headquarters; 2) providing financial support to elect Democratic candidates; 3) supporting special projects that enable the party to raise funds and awareness. Examples of these last efforts include the annual Donkey
Trot 5K fun run/walk and our annual fall and spring community dinners. Our team accomplishes its goals through identification and outreach to potential donors from the surrounding community, and by direct solicitation to party members. By utilizing ActBlue, a fundraising software that supports Democrats nationwide, it has become even easier to contribute regardless of where the donor is or what device they are using.
As the political climate shifts and swings, one thing that we cannot have enough of is data. The data committee of the county party exists to help us assess and analyze our efforts, identifying
what works and what does not. We also aim to be in touch with the Ohio Democratic Party on a regular basis, recieving from them further insights into what can be done to better reach beyond our network. The data committee will be looked to in coming years to provide details to our membership and donor base on the successes we see as the ACDP scales up its community
